So I've been thinking about taking up Krav Maga and was wondering if anyone in this area knew of a good place this might be taught. The only places I've found nearby to Kittery are up in South Portland/Portland and Tewksbury Mass.
Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!

Google is your best friend. It's martial arts though, good for real life defense tactics, not the regular display karate crap that 11 year olds take. Not as hardcore as like UFC or anything. Practical dis-arming techniques and defense to offense fighting.
Good for cops and soldiers.

Have one, and a .40 Sig. I want something else for when I'm a cop just in case I get caught off guard. It's always said that as a police officer you are gauranteed to be caught off guard and end up on your back or wrestling on the ground or in a full fist fight, this is what may keep me alive.

You can train for years and still get unlucky in a fight is my opinion. I trained for a few years in martial arts and learned a lot from it but there is always someone crazier and probably a better fighter out there.
Also a good chunk of the disarm techniques they teach you can you dead pretty easy.

Ya, I was at work. didnt have time to search. I figured it was something in that area, however. I took some martial arts back in the day. A couple of my buddies train Jujistu and Kempo and are getting into some MMA tourneys and ****. Let me know if you want me to hook you up with them

That's true about anything. The disarming techniques will not result in your death fairly easily, hense why they are still being taught. When I went through Boot Camp they taught us simple disarming techniques that would certainly succeed if done right. The main part of a disarming technique is not to telegraph your move. If you do, then you're dead. But if you act smoothly and do it in one solid action that catches them by surprise then you have 99.9% chance of succeed (.1% reserved for the random occurance that a firearm might go off accidently, or a knife catches you and harms you, etc. etc.)
And yes, there is always going to be someone crazier and perhaps more well trained then you, but that doesn't mean you can't still beat them. I'm not looking to use this in my day to day life seeing as that I don't get into fights. However this would certainly give me an upper hand when I head into policing again. Not to mention that you could shower for years and years and never have a problem until one day you slip on the soap and crack your head open. Does that mean you are not going to shower for the rest of your life? I could train for years and years in Krav Maga and still get my ass handed to me one day. Knowing that should I just not work out and not take Krav Maga and be a lazy ass cop who eats donuts and knows nothing about defending myself except for what the police academy trained me for?

Terry, do they live in the area? Either way I wouldn't mind speaking with them and getting their input on my desires. In addition, they may know which are the better training centers in the area. I'm really only interested in Krav Maga though since it's completely geared to Law Enforcement and Military.

heh. ive debated going back into karate (or a form thereof) for a while. i did tang so do for ~ 5years. about a year ago, i met a Kyusho Jitsu (ryukyu kempo)... i actually worked for him for a couple of months. he demonstrated a bunkai (pressure point KO) on me, and i was literally knocked off my feet (on a VERY basic hit, not hard, no where special it seemed. i just lost control of my limbs and fell like a sack of bricks.
blew my freakin mind.

Take up boxing... you will get in the best shape of your lives and you don't have to fight/spar anyone unless you want too.
Doesn't really help with disarming people... but its the best workout and confidence booster I have ever tried

I have advanced training in Marine Corps MMA and I was an instructor for 2 years.
I'd love to brush up on my skills. Lemme know if you find anything!

If i had the extra coin, I'd totally take Krav Maga or Ju Jitsu...but one at a time. Can't go wrong with breaking a dudes arm 3 different times while choking him out if SHTF.. Both are EXTREMELY practical.
