Yay!!! Another law enacted because a few people needed to blame something else other than peoples stupidity! I don't see how this is more dangerous than eating, drinking ANYTHING, and or changing songs on ur ipod while driving. BALLS :palm:

IMO its worse because you have to look. I do everything else without looking (mp3 player song-skipping, eating, drinking...).

and i don't know how you can enforce it when the people that are suppose to enforce it are guilty of doing it from time to time.

Like the just plain talkin on the cell phone law. After i heard it was getting tighter and more strict.. I still found occasionally a cop talking on his or her cell phone casually.

and honestly this all spawns from people thinking they are god of the road and fail at proving it.

When i get a txt if i am in the clear i'll type a word or two with one hand while one hands on the wheel while darting my eyes back and forth and then pause (it only takes me a few seconds to type a word or 2 out) pay attention to the road to make sure no traffic is around or anything weird happening.
If i am in traffic then i ignore the txt message... plain and simple. if its important who ever will more then likely call me in short period of time :P

This is good. I always hate it when i look behind me and someone is creeping up on me not payng attention and texting, or when I see them next to me. Although, it doesnt bother me when I do it, but I'm that much of a better driver

How about talking and driving? Since it's the distraction from driving that is dangerous.

and i don't know how you can enforce it when the people that are suppose to enforce it are guilty of doing it from time to time.

...you're new to Law Enforcement Officers, aren't you.

I heard about this a while ago and basicaly they can site you a ticket if you are caught breaking other laws DUE to you texting, i.e. crossing the center line, speeding, causing an accident, etc...

So it's like a double whammy. Break a rule because of texting and you get two tickets instead of one. I know there are alot of people that don't agree with this but Jess has been in two acciedents (almost a year apart from one another) where she was rear ended, car totalled, all because the other driver wasn't paying attention to the road. And now her back is f-ed for life. It's been 3 years since the last accident and we're still making trips to the hospital. I hope they enforce this heavily!

no i am not like i said my uncle is a high ranking sheriff in florida and even he does stupid things against the law himself but yet plays out the

"Do as i say not as i do" routine. :unamused:

and the thing is that bugs me is they think this will lower accident rates when everyone finds a new type of distraction almost every day and it spreads like a disease..
but i guess thats the same as drugs and i do wish drugs would go away imo *shrug*

You know they can pull phone records easily with VERY little resistance right? They just see that a message was sent from your mobile device at the same time you were being pulled over. Time stamps are eveywhere on data being sent. Just gotta hope the cops really don't want to pull you over. I think it's just another means to find probable cause to check someone "suspicious" without having to worry about getting accused of profiling.

I see what you did there. And we have to memorize where to hit on the phone. We cant' feel the keys so we actually "know" the "keys" better and don't have to take as much attention away from where we need to be focusing. I'm +1 for avoiding messaging but I can def say I still will have my phone in my hand. I try to ask who ever is with me to type for me though. :o

Exactly. There's a right and a wrong way of doing things. Keep your eyes on the road and you're good to go.

I'm not too bothered that it's a law though. Maybe it will stop others who don't have the ability to do this.

+1 this is a law they really cant enforce. the only way someone will get a ticket is if the cop is stoped next to you and can clearly see your phone or he pulls you over and you hand him your phone. in order to look through your phone they would need a warent and no cops going to sit there and wait for one for a $100 dollar ticket its pointless.

They can write the tickets all day long. Only time they would have to prove it is if you fight it. Not to mention it's more another deturance method and a reason to say they pulled you over and then found other stuff... Like a noise violation ticket. They are just looking to catch you with your pants down.

thats all this sitation is good for is an excuse to pull someone over. i dont disagree with it but i do think cell phone use should have been baned all together at this point, if they are really conserned about acidents and injuryies do to texting. when infact it's cell phone use all together thats the root.

They are people too.
But no they are not allowed to either. Which makes it funny having the whole interface system for them to look up registrations and all that while driving.

This both bothers me a little. However it makes me feel a little better inside as well.

The more laws we make the more rights that are taken away from us. But to the contrary, I'd like to think it would encourage people who suck at life to not suck at life so much. At least they won't ruin other people with their shotty decisions if this were the case.

they use the computer and talk on their cell while driving. it is a very challenging endeavor that they are HIGHLY trained to accomplish in the normal functions of their duties.

they need to get that ******* that is swerving around with the newspaper draped over the steering wheel and the cup of coffee in one hand. it is a push to get around this fool in the morning.

they can write any ticked they want and it is yours to contest in court. they just have to see the offense. you would most likely have your cell phone records in court to fight. i think it should be standard to pull your cell phone records for ANY accident. peeps are stoopid and piss me off!! if youre on your cell...youre at fault!

I wouldn't be so quick to say they can't...

I know in Florida when I was living down there, it was ticketable to be talking on your cell phone or texting. However driving around, I don't think I ever saw a Statie NOT on his cell phone and texting, and the Orlando PD was almost as bad...

Even if theyre not allowed to, who's going to write them a ticket for it if they do?

As someone with a Criminal Justice degree, I'll tell you its a really fu**ed up system out there. I vote we all move to Europe (or Japan.... Mmmm S202), no more NoBama either! :spin:

There is already a broad law to cover the symptoms of distracted driving--265:79 Reckless Driving (http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/XXI/265/265-79.htm).

Although I am completely against messing with phones/food/whatever while driving, making compound laws is not the answer. The complexity of legal code in general in the U.S. has surpassed the level of absurdity.

Digressing--compound/overlapping traffic laws are about collecting revenue, not safety. Legislators and governors would much rather pass laws to increase revenue than address the real safety issue plaguing this country's drivers by mandating very serious, difficult-to-master driving skill requirements for licensing.

The texting ban will not, in practice, apply to LEOs.

im_so_blue
02-18-2010, 05:33 PM
i still rebelize while driving talking on my cell and all

I believe in the system... if they can do it i can do it to... And if it means i gotta stoop as low as to catch em on camera or something... i will. Cause i am that bastard that will go the limit to make everything a fair playing field.

Not that i hate cops or the law. I just don't like it when cops think they are above the law and your their people to piss on and get away with it.

I know this cause my uncle does it as hes a top ranking cop in the state of florida. and he txt's and talks on his cell all the time on duty. and yet he is that ******* that will write you a speeding ticket for going 3 or so mph over the speed limit cause hes having a bad day

or visit you in the hospital if your 80 y/o and after you were injured in a accident that resulted in just a lil bit of speeding but not much... just to hand you a ticket and pretty much tell you to go get bent.

yea my uncle is that ******* cop that you never wanna get pulled over by

but i learn from the **** he pulls and puts in a real world setting up here. Which is probably why i have been pulled over about a half dozen times and gotten a verbal warning every single time in the past 6 years
