I just headed to Subaru.com to see what a Legacy 2.5i 5MT wagon is going for these days. Seems they dropped all Legacy wagons for 2008 lineup, other than the Outback. Asshats.

Personally? Not really. Doing a little legwork for someone over at the GRM board, actually. Just a little miffed at their dropping of a car that seems to have been their staple for so long(though it seems no one has bought one for a while).

Might've been nice to go drive a new one, though... Amy needs a new car soon, and the Impreza 2.5i wagon is a wee bit smaller than we'd like for her needs.

Asshats.
Yep, it's pretty stunning. Suburbia is all going for 260hp RAV4s and Highlanders - possibly the most boring vehicles on the planet that handle worse, are more expensive, and get lower fuel economy than a big wagon like the Legacy 2.5.

I'm still pissed that they dropped the manual GT wagon for 2006 [and continued to build it in USA for export to Canada], but dropping the Legacy wagon for an all-Outback lineup is horriffic.

IMO with this move, the ugly new Impreza, and the ugly new Forester, Subaru has gone from multiple to zero cars on which I'll plunk down my hard earned. Shame.

[For the record, the Outback sedan was also dropped, so all Outbacks are now wagons, all Legacys are sedans.]

Welcome to America where the lowest common denominator wins. Manual transmissions are disapearing and station wagons were cool in the 80's.

I strongly considered getting a WRX wagon instead of my Sedan. I almost regret getting the sedan, but I guess I don't know what I haven't had.

Subaru is coming off of a decrease in sales, except in the Impreza line. They are trying to simplify their production lines, and save costs while appealing to a broader market. It's easy to sit back and critisize their actions, when we know nothing about the millions they have spent on their market research and design.

We are one of the smallest parts of their market, and we probally end up costing them the most (In terms of warrenty repairs on cars we tend to drive hard) If we want to continue to get our lovely AWD (and potentially turbo charged) cars we need to accept that they might just know what they are doing. It's far to early to decry their decisions.
