It's a nice partial swap, but NOT an S202 by ANY imagination.

I love how peoples vaginas start hurting when something is done to make something legal in the US. This is the same dumb arse argument that is someone buys a WRX and modified it it cannot be called an STi or have STi badging cause it wasn't installed at the factory. Give it a rest people and try to help him sell something he probably really deep down doesn't want to sell. Stop getting all bent out of shape just because YOU didn't do what he did. This is one reason I became a lurker on the forums is all this damned verbal flatulence. Hershey good luck with the sale. If I had the money available I would love to add this to my garage.

I think my question is why he left out a lot of the S202-specific visual parts?

I think the point is that in the initial post, the OP said it WAS S202 #386. Poor wording. The OP didn't take it personally when people pointed out his mistake in wording, so it seems he didn't intend to mislead anyone. Sadly, it's almost impossible to put a price on mods, because the value is completely up to the buyer. Really sucks when people put $20K into modding a car, and sell it at a $15K loss.

With regard to calling a swapped & modded WRX an "STI"...it isn't. It's a WRX. You call the war what the VIN lists it as. Mind you, if you'd like to pay STI insurance premiums I'd welcome you. :D

And on that note, that "S202" is worth about $8.5K or if he's lucky, $15K, parted out piecemeal.
(I've got about $50K in my STi, on a good say I could get $22K for it.)
... Ouch. :)

This is a fine line...I say it's a great swap but at the same time, I don't think it can be called a S202 anymore, IMHO. Either way, the car looks SUPER clean and GLWS.
