Update... cant get any smoke to come out of it during the day so I'm guessing the smoke I did see was very insignificant and only visible due to my headlights making the particles visible.

Thanks for all tips for getting into reverse when the car doesn't want you too... Ive used variations of all those to get my prior cars into reverse too.

Now the questions (all pertaining to a 2004 WRX)
Ive read a little bit about TDC on this forum... who are they and how much do they charge for the stage one map?

If anyone has a cable, all the software and would be willing to do a stage one I would gladly pay you a small fee... as well as supply a few beers (never work on cars without beer, bad things happen).

other than that I'm just new to forced induction and WRX's so any information about tuning and whatnot is always appreciated. A link to a tell all beginners guide is what I need but I havent found it on NASIOC.

TDC is a great vendor! I have done all my tuning through them and have received great service.

The map and access port together will run you around $700

Many on here have tuned their own cars.... but you REALLY have to know what you are doing or you'll be spending alot moore on a new engine.

I'll be selling my V1 accessport maybe within the week. It's for an 04. That will let you go stage 1, 2, or any other map cobb has for the V1 accessport like valet mode, or security modes, or economy mode. I'd like to get around 375 for it. They are going for around 400 on NASIOC. I just have to unmarry it from my car.

^^^^ Thats not a bad deal at all if you want a v1 AP. My best suggestion is to get a v2 simply because its good for any year 2 liter suby. There are only two model versions of the new accessport out, one for 2.0 and one for 2.5, that way if you ever change cars or whatever, you can still use the same AP! There are many more features coming out on the v2 as well. But, if all you want are a few maps and no launch control or cool things like that, get the v1.

As far as TDC goes, get your tune there.TDC is out of Concord, NH and its really easy to find. They have a real nice dyno and one lift. The place is under new management/ownership and Mike is a great guy. Hes done all the tuning on my car and has answered any other questions I have had, with enthusiasm! Hes more than willing to talk to and try to help anyone he can. If you want a base stage one map, then you can prolly get an AP and map from him a little more than 700 bucks. My best suggestion is to have him actually tune your car specifically.

Let me know if you plan on going there to get some work done, as I live about 15 minutes away and will definetly come hang while it gets tuned!

Nothing wrong with the 2.0 At least wit ha 2.0 you can race in STX Autocross category. That is pretty much the only category that our cars can compete in too.

Where in concord do you live? I am in belmont!

I'm in East Concord... if anyone wants to get together in the next coming week I would love to sit down and talk about cars and shoot the ****.

I have another question too... Are the hiccups I feel in the powerband normal? There is the tipical turbo kicking in around 3 grand but after that I feel what are like deadspots or surges between 4 and 6 thousand RPM. Might be normal opperation or it might be that fact that the dealer put in 87 for my first tank (my chipped e30 felt like this when my girlfriend filled up with 87 by accident). So bad gas was my first idea but I havent made it to the gas station for 93 yet.

yup thats normal for an 04 and 05. The accessport take most, if not all, of that away along with a very nice increase in power! It's a while different car when you get rid of the stock maps.

Give it some time and put in the proper fuel. Bad fuel usually will make it misfise, knock and run choppy. Under partial throttle and cruise conditions fuel does not make much of a difference. WOT Does. The car will retard and add timing to compensate.

Run that tank nice and low and then full er up with 93. If you are really concerned pick up a can or torco. It bring a tank of 93 up to like 99. So it should bring 87 right up.
