If the drawing is right...then I love the look. Apparently it's not official yet.

The concept has been kicking around for months now, and Subaru and Toyota have back-burnered it several times too. I don't think we are going to see this until the economy picks up again.

Last I had heard it was going to be released under Toyota's line, however it would be sporting Subaru's Turbocharged Flat 4 and a six-speed gearbox. All that in something RWD sounds like a helluva lot of fun to me.

You might not. There's a good chance this will be RWD. If that's the case Subaru is seriously thinking of not bringing here because AWD is their major selling point here in the US and they feel us stupid Americans might get confused. Not saying I agree with backwards logic, but that's how they think. That's what happens when the marketing department runs a company.

Saw this in motor trend last month and as for now it's only comming out in the non turbo charged form, 165hp rwd. Nice body but poor hp out put. Subaru does plan on putting out it's own version with the possible 300hp set up but it will be a few years

It IS being released, in RWD, first by Toyota, in late 2011.
In multiple trim levels, from a mild 120-140ish HP to a Genesis-chasing +220HP or more.
Not sure on AWD, but SoA makes all models in AWD, so I'd expect one to be forthcoming.

And we all know that if it does NOT come turbo-charged - then many people on this site will be doing the VF - FMIC upgrade. LOL!

I think this is where brand image draws the line. Speculation that i've read stated that the Toyota version will be non turbo, much like that N/A STi that was developed a couple years back...except strictly RWD. The subaru turbo AWD version would respawn the lost Coupe model since the GC.

speculation

But in the end, what does it matter, it'd be pretty easy to swap a turbo subie motor in the toyota :p

Can I just say this? EVERYTHING IS HEAR-SAY!
we already have 2 other threads about his possible car on here. We need to merge them all I think. Talk from the start has been EL20 H4. dirrect port fuel injected replacement for the EJ series. 200hp NA 2.0L sounds fine at the concept they were going for with light weight sporty car.

Subaru has built itself a reputation for safety on the back of its symmetrical all-wheel drive system, at least in North America, but with the development of a new rear-wheel drive sports car, the automaker’s image may be jeopardized.

This is an issue that has Subaru’s management worried, so much so that it is even considering excluding the upcoming rear-wheel drive sports car from salehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif in North America.

“We’re an all-wheel-drive brand,” company spokesman Michael McHale explained to Ward’s Auto. At question is whether brand loyalists would “forgive us a one-off exception,” he said.

McHale went on to reveal that the Subaru and Toyota versions will be very similar, except for unique styling at the front and rear.

Looks like they Xerox'd the roofline, a-pillar, side windows, and rear 3/4 from a GTR.

Since everyone is throwing around hearsay, I'll put what I've heard into the ring:

Toyota's version will be RWD only, and Subaru's will be AWD only. I've heard so much different stuff about what sort of engine/power outputs will be coming that I don't even remember anymore so I won't put forth any speculation there.

If they make this in any of the Variations listed in this thread, I see it selling very well no matter what. AWD would be nice, but if they wanted to compete with weekend cruisers like the S2000 or the Mustang, RWD would be a good bet. And since subaru likes their vehicles to be pretty much the same under the skin, I would bet a AWD, H-4 with a turbo trim level.

I think AWD would be the best choice. I can't really think of another AWD turbo coupe within that price range. Not since the Eclipse GSX and Celica GT-Four.

If they offered both (Toyota=RWD, Subaru=AWD) I think that'd be badass! That way people could have their coice. After all, AWD isn't really needed in the south and in Hawaii and such. They'd have it all covered!

Some new pictures of a modded Toyota. It supposedly has a Toyota 6 speed and a turbo Subie motor.

That would be stupid to make it AWD. Plus improbably. Why not just buy an STi then unless you are buying it for nothing more than styling. With the current wheelbase and a 2 door setup it would be more of an understeer pig than any Subaru to date. That would be fun.

Major engineering would need to take place to make a Subaru AWD system work to begin with in the same Chassis as a RWD car. Subaru chassis' are essentially a FWD chassis with RWD slapped on as an extra.

I think AWD would be the best choice. I can't really think of another AWD turbo coupe within that price range. Not since the Eclipse GSX and Celica GT-Four.

It's been said several times before that Toyota is making the RWD version and Subaru is having the AWD version with a slightly longer wheelbase. As far as advantages over current Impreza? Lighter weight. Lower center of gravity. Price should be lower as well.
