RAL TSD - Rally Against Lukemia TSD Road Rally
NHIS - Loudon, NH

I've done this event the last two years. Lots of fun. A great intro to road rallying. It's about two hours of driving ending with a lap or two of the NHIS road course [in the pitch black]. The event is a highly sponsored benefit, with a lot of awards & prizes following [VP & I won the first-timers class in 2005].

So make yourselves some teams and sign up. :)

August 24 (Friday night) Rally Against Leukemia

RAL weekend will get fired up on Friday evening when the “Rally Against Leukemia” road rally explores approximately 60 miles of back roads surrounding NHIS. The rally requires no special equipment and no previous rally experience. Registration will open at 5:00 PM at the main entry gate at NHIS and a brief beginners’ rally school will be held at approximately 6:00 PM. The first car will start at 7:01. The rally is run Friday night, to allow Solo and Club Racers a chance to join in the fun of the rally. This is a non-championship event. The following classes will be used: Experienced/equipped, Novice (less than 5 rallies), and First timers. A special class could be created if 5 vehicles of a marquee club pre-register. Registration form is on the ner.org (http://ner.org/) website.

Donated snacks and beverages will greet the rallyists in the Tech Center of the speedway upon completion of the rally at approximately 10:00 PM. The rally is the first half of the excitement for the night. Numerous food, service and entertainment franchises have donated thousands of dollars in prizes and raffle items. Once scoring is completed, a raffle will take place. Dinner certificates from establishments such as Applebees, the Nintey Nine, UNO, Longhorn, Smokey Bones, and Outback will be up for grabs. Entertainment opportunities include NHIS race tickets, Lake Winnepesaukee cruises, Meadowbrook concert tickets, movie passes and Funspot fun passes, among others. Certificates also from the Home Depot and Wal-Mart will be in the prize pool. The eats are provided by Shaws, Hannaford, and BJs. The most popular raffle item last year was a free entry to the O’neil Rally School, which they have graciously donated again.

I'd love to, but I'm going to Montreal that weekend.

[VP & I won the first-timers class in 2005].

... which would be my first-ever automotive competition trophy. It shows just how easy and laid back this particular event is, if they'll let my ill-driving ass out of there with an award.:)

For the love of God, all you with stock-height cars(lowered cars should be equipped with skidplates... the gravel roads get rough) get out there and rally it up! It's for a good cause and you'll learn a little something too.

This course goes down gravel roads? I might have to buy a skidpate and GO!!!

Yessir. I'd say that at least half of the mileage covered on the '05 rally was on narrow, mainly deserted gravel roads.

What kind of tires are best for that besides actual gravel tires.

Nate, it's a TSD rally. It's not about going fast, it's about being percise.

Nate8409
07-27-2007, 11:57 AM
Yeah I know what TSD means but how can you not want to go fast. When do they tell you the course?

I would not mind being a co-driver for someone if I did not end up driving in it.

Meh, doesn't really matter what you're on. There were some moments that we did double the posted limit for brief sprints(I think I topped out around 65mph), but it was on tarmac. You're also limited to 55 or 60mph on track. We did just fine with LB's mainly stock Impreza on camber worn P205/50R16 Falken FK451s.

Gravel tires would be a waste.

Yeah I know what TSD means but how can you not want to go fast. When do they tell you the course?

You can go fast if you want, but if you're caught dicking around or breaking the speed limit on the road course, you're out of the event. If you drive more sanely but don't follow the speed and time directions precisely, you lose.:)

We got the TSD notes approximately a half hour before stage start.

I would not mind being a co-driver for someone if I did not end up driving in it.

You should hit up Unsakred. It's time he's born into "the ways", and that 4x4 slushbox Impreza of his needs a dust bath and a workout.:)

Hmmmm. I think I'm in for this one. What towns did you go through? I amfrom that area and am interested in where they went. I have spent many years racing down loudon/canterbury/gilmanton/belmont. In any case, I may race, I may just co drive. Gonna talk to my old man and see if he can find an old junk beater from a customer to take and tool on.

ValuePack
07-27-2007, 02:25 PM
I'll have to look for stage notes and mileage... I believe we only covered Loudon and some of Gilmanton... head down behind that little ice cream shack that's on 106 and go for the rest of your life. I didn't recognize anything whatsoever until we came up for air at the track, several hours later.

I'd say you'll be fine, just grab your car and go. Just keep an eye for big rocks in the road(an extra pair of driving lights of three would be much recommended... LB's high beams and Hella 500 fogs were no match for the woods)... there was at least one lowered STi there when we ran last.

I'd say that if you're the type to worry about paint chips, this isn't the rally for you though.:)

Well see, it is a rally car at heart, and a T-Arrrrr at that, so im sure it wont be scared of much. Maybe ill just get some rally flaps before hand. either that, or like I said, just get a junk car from my dads shop. he has all kinds of customers just give him cars. My neighbor does have a right hand drive 99 or 00 legacy wagon that is sitting in their yard, maybe I could get it off of them cheap!

Edit: Please check forum store and sign up for a shirt! I know you all want one!

Dooooooo eeeeeeeet! I think '99 was the last year for RHD postal wagons in the US... that'd be a hell of a score.

Perfect! A stock B13 is just about as good as it gets for this(other than scraping the door handles on the road course).

FRIGGIN RIGHT. Lets do it. We will take the Sentra! I will sign up when I get home.

I'd say there isn't really much reason NOT to do it. The '05 field included everything from a new Chevy Trailblazer to an EF Civic hatch with a massive vacuum leak(the guy brought his wife and 6 month old kid, too). They even fed us at the end of the night.

If you can read English and do simple math, you're golden.

That's typically how it works, first timers are listed as first timers on the paperwork.

How'd ya place nate? Would've been neat to do if I wasn't working.
