Does anyone know what the max torque rating is for a stock 02 wrx clutch?

I don't think it will hold much more than 300, for very long

If it slips it slips. Slipping would be better anyway. Stop the tranny from going bang maybe.
Or not lol

The tranny hasn't been having any problems thus far. I was looking into aftermarket clutches but the tranny on my car's year has been getting bad reviews. I've read that the added grip at high throttle can cause the rod to snap

yeah, best to go with an OEM replacement or an basic replacement from ACT or something. That is what I plan on doing. A slipping clutch is the fuse in the system.

My 2002 want a great car. I never had any transmission problems either.

The act clutch kit was on 3 of the 7 sites I went to where the clutch caused the rod to snap. I think i'm just gonna replace the clutch with another stock unit when I pull my engine out for now.

I ran 340 ft. lbs on a new OEM Exedy unit for a good 30,000 mi. It didn't slip even at the end of that lifetime. Hope that helps.

Is your 02 first half of the production year or second?
If it's first I would worry about the Trans itself also.

I assume wear-and-tear is confounded in this? Otherwise, I would be quite surprised.

I'll have to check it out when I pull it out of storage. Not sure. If the tranny goes I gess I'll just have to replace it with a 6 speed :)

DSG's dyno reads very low too. I put down 300wtq on their dyno and my clutch started to slip and he couldnt finish the tune. How many miles on the stock clutch?

Any WRX 5spd should introduce fear when shifting. :)

So I saw my clutch today and only about a third of the disk was left. Checking my records this clutch only has about 40k on it. During it's life it was dynoed twice and was running 286 wtq after the first dyno and 316 wtq after the second about 1,500 miles later. Point in case a stock clutch will last about 60K or more at around 316 wtq. I say longer asuming it's not dynoed.

if you drive it withOUT dumping the clutch, you will be fine with any amount of TQ. If yer trying to race all the 'cool kids' and their nifty lil' civics/integras and all that and dumping yer clutch, then get a new one. i do not drive conservative at all. i beat the bag out of my car, to be honest. my clutch has been fantastic. i just don't dump the clutch. yours will last as long as you want it to. and yes, there's a difference between 04 and 02...
if yer really worried, don't exceed 300 with stock tranny internals. If you do? start with the clutch, then gears..then/or dump the money for a 6 speed and all the rest that you need to buy to go with it...
ps.. 112k on stock clutch...

I have yet to dump the clutch on this car after watching my friend at the drags dump his and snap his rod (granted he said it was at 8k when he did).
